Korean Medical Tourism Visas
Korean Medical Tourism Visas
The Korean visa system for the purpose of medical tourism is primarily categorized into short-term and long-term visas, mainly consisting of the following two types:
| Visa Type | Status of Stay | Maximum Stay Period | Purpose |
| C-3-3 | Short-term Visit (Medical Tourism) | Up to 90 days | Simple treatments (e.g., cosmetic surgery), short-term treatment, and recuperation. |
| G-1-10 | Miscellaneous (Treatment & Recuperation) | Up to 1 year | Long-term treatment, rehabilitation, etc., exceeding 90 days. |
Both visa types can be issued to the patient themselves and their accompanying family members (spouse and direct lineal ascendants/descendants) for caregiving purposes.
Key Requirements and Documents (Focusing on C-3-3 Visa)
The C-3-3 visa is generally intended for foreign patients and their accompanying family members who are invited by a Foreign Patient Attraction Agency registered with the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Applications can be made through a Korean embassy/consulate, e-Visa, or a Visa Issuance Confirmation (VLC) application.
Main Required Documents for Application at a Korean Embassy/Consulate:
-
Visa Application Form, Passport, and 1 Standard-sized Photo
-
Documents Proving Medical Purpose: A diagnosis or doctor's opinion from a domestic or foreign medical institution to substantiate the need for treatment or recuperation.
-
Proof of Reservation: A confirmation of appointment/reservation for treatment or recuperation from the Korean medical institution.
-
Proof of Financial Capability: Documents proving the ability to cover the costs for treatment, accommodation, and living expenses.
-
Note: The submission of financial documents may be waived if the inviting agency guarantees the applicant's identity.
-
-
Proof of Family Relationship: (If accompanied by family) Marriage certificate, family relation certificate, etc.
Note: A C-3-3 multiple-entry visa (valid for 5 years) may be issued to the patient themselves if they meet specific criteria, such as having visited Korea 2 or more times on a C-3-3 visa, or having pre-paid treatment (surgery) costs of 10 million KRW or more.
What's the next step?
-
What is the duration of your planned treatment? The length (short-term: 90 days or less, or long-term: more than 90 days) will determine the appropriate visa type (C-3-3 or G-1-10).
-
What is your nationality? Requirements and procedures can vary depending on your country of citizenship.
If you can tell me the planned treatment period or your nationality, I can check for more specific application procedures or required documents for that visa.
