  • After the test, you should take enough rest for about 3-4 hours. (Please accompany a guardian on the day of the check-up.)
  • Operating machinery, exercising, making important decisions, and attending meetings are prohibited on the day of the test.
  • Examinees who took conscious sedation endoscopy cannot drive him/herself. Regarding Biopsy

  • If there is any abnormal finding during endoscopy, a biopsy and a Helicobacter pylori test are to be performed for an accurate diagnosis.
  • These tests may cause temporary hemorrhage or pain, but they mostly improve without any clinical problems. An endoscopic hemostasis can also be performed

Cautions for colonoscopy

  • Colonoscopy is a test to diagnose cancer, polyps, inflammation, and ulcers by observing the anus, rectum, and the inside of the large intestine using an endoscope. If there is an abnormal finding, tissue removal can be performed, which could take about 20 to 40 minutes.
  • For those who are taking anticoagulant, antiplatelet, thrombolytic drugs, etc., please stop taking the medications 7 days before the examination date, in order to remove polyps. Since the period of ceasing medication intake is different for each medicine constituent, you must consult your doctor in advance. Please also note that after you visit KMI by car and if you try to return home by taking public transportation, there's no parking fee support.
  • Except for those who went through a check-up/procedure requiring fasting for the day, those who let out the intestinal air, feeling less bloated in the abdomen, should start eating with light meals.
  • Due to constant friction caused by the endoscope, symptoms of discomfort or pain around the anus or hemorrhoids could worsen after the examination.
  • In this case, please take a sitz-bath when you return home (expose the anal area to warm water at about 40℃ temperature, 3 times in a day for 15-20 minutes at a time), then use the cold wind of a dryer to completely remove moisture around the anus.
  • After a biopsy, a small amount of blood could be mixed in the stool. If the hemorrhage continues with blood lumps, please contact the hospital.
  • Female examinees cannot take the test if she is pregnant, possibly pregnant, or during their menstruation period. (However, if you use a tampon during menstruation, you can take the test.)
  • If you are likely to be pregnant, please first check your pregnancy state, and then take a bowel preparation tablet.
  • If the bowel is not properly cleaned and needs a re-examination, additional fees will be charged.

    · For breakfast and lunch the day before the test, have a light meal such as porridge or thin rice gruel with a side dish of satl and soy sauce. You need to fast after that.

Complications

  • According to medication intake, drastic changes like complications, colon perforation (aperture/tearing), inflammation, dyspnea, and blood pressure can rarely occur. You may need emergency measures or even surgeries at times. Complications could appear after a few days. Please contact us when there are symptoms such as severe pain, hemorrhage, vomiting, and fever at times
  • Due to the bowel preparation, there is a risk of dehydration and kidney dysfunction after the test (especially in older adults). Therefore, make sure you drink plenty of water and go to the nearest emergency room if you experience symptoms such as decreased urine output or dizziness.
